Chapter 1237 - 56: Office Battle Royale
Bologue thought that once the darkness cleared, he would be greeted by a frenzy of slaughter, but in fact, when Bologue’s feet landed firmly on the ground again, nothing happened. There were no eerie howls, no sudden attacks, and even the evil clamor had weakened considerably.
Bologue looked around; he was currently in an office zone, where workspaces were sequentially arranged, boundaries cutting them off, swivel chairs placed chaotically, and scattered documents strewn everywhere.
The circuitry seemed affected, as bright lights flickered occasionally.
"Relax a bit, Bologue."
Mamo patted Bologue’s shoulder, a mischievous smile on his face, "It’s not time for a full-scale assault yet."
Bologue’s expression was somewhat complex; Mamo was becoming more unpredictable as he lived.
"As you can see, this used to be the Logistics Department’s office zone, but it was forced to be abandoned due to the distortion of the Ruins District," Mamo said.
"I think it looks pretty normal here."
Bologue was somewhat confused; this area seemed perfectly normal, with many staff members busy here, setting up one device after another.
Most of the equipment was incomprehensible to Bologue, but judging by the steady ticking sounds, they should be some kind of detection devices to assess the safety of the area.
Besides that, the most noticeable thing was a recycling device, with huge winches wrapped in loops of hooked locks, typically used in maritime settings; Bologue couldn’t fathom why it was here.
"Normal?"
Mamo, as if he had heard a joke, shook his head helplessly and said, "After the birth of the Ruins District, to explore this Land of Chaos, we’ve adjusted some low chaos areas to become ’slightly normal’ as our outposts and safe houses."
"So this is your outpost for exploring the Ruins District?" Bologue asked.
"It was before, but after we abandoned exploration, it was left unused. Fortunately, the equipment is still well-maintained and can be restarted at any time."
Mamo turned around, his gaze sweeping the surroundings; familiar scenes made him feel nostalgic. Then he raised his hand towards Bologue and pointed upwards.
Bologue followed the direction of Mamo’s finger, and at that moment, he understood what Mamo meant by slightly normal.
Unclear cubes intertwined and piled overhead, without fixed patterns, some large, some small, some rolling, some tilted, infinitely extending like a twisted geometric feast, transforming into a continuously shifting maze, losing the sense of time and space.
On the smooth walls they formed were "hung" desks, as if the entire office layer had twisted vertically, altering the direction of gravity as well.
Bologue found it difficult to describe what he saw at the moment; even the transverse sections of corridors were clearly visible, arrayed as bridges crossing overhead.
It’s as if some force completely twisted space, thoroughly disrupting the arrangement of everything.
Bologue swallowed, in this distorted space, his vision blocked by endless cubes, making it impossible to see the distant end.
"You can try jumping forcefully," Mamo suggested.
Bologue guessed this guy undoubtedly had no good intentions, but driven by curiosity, he leaped lightly.
Nothing happened.
Bologue looked at Mamo in puzzlement; Mamo continued, "Use more force."
Bologue glanced at the twisted structure overhead; under Ether’s enhancement, he fiercely jumped several meters high. The acceleration of his body gradually disappeared; under gravity, he should have plummeted to the ground but suddenly felt himself caught by another force.
He took a step into it; his senses distorted, he felt a rush of nausea, his mind seemingly lost direction, consumed by the twisted force. A peculiar angle and curvature between the twisted walls and floor formed a maze-like structure that made him dizzy.
One side of the wall seemed to become like a "floor," pulling Bologue towards it; turning his head to look at Mamo, Mamo now appeared as if he were hanging on the wall.
"With space’s distortion, even gravity has been altered?"
Bologue felt incredulous; he threw out the Silver Hand, pulling himself back to Mamo’s side.
Now looking up again, the light in this space became hazy and odd, piercing through the cube’s gaps, casting a gentle halo, illuminating those twisted surfaces. Shadows projected on the wall seemed warped and chaotic, like phantasmic projections.
"Is this still considered low chaos?" Bologue began to wonder what high chaos in the Ruins District would look like.
Mamo said, "According to the assessment standards, it is; at least there’s nothing dangerous here."
Bologue focused his gaze at the end of the office zone, where the blank wall extended in all directions, with nothing except an elevator door.
"The areas plunged into chaos are the Logistics Department, Sublimation Furnace Core, Containment Department, and some other small parts."
Mamo also looked at that elevator door and continued, "Through this elevator, you can reach different floors, going to different areas."
"They call them floors, but just like the Pillar Courtyard, it’s merely a spatial division, isn’t it?"
Bologue always suspected that the Cultivation Room was not divided into floors at all, that the so-called floors were merely independent parallel spaces, and the elevator was like a portal, sending staff to different areas.
