Chapter 85 The MVP of the Haunted House
Chapter 85 The MVP of the Haunted House
Night shifts are Su Qing's domain.
Wang Minyu usually sleeps in a cubicle on the second floor, or enters the system space to tend to the herbs that are growing increasingly grotesque.
The front hall was left to Su Qing, while Li Siyuan and Zhao Na took turns on duty.
It's less about being on duty and more about building up your courage.
Su Qing didn't like to turn on the main lights, so she only left on a dim, yellowish table lamp.
She sat behind the counter, holding a scalpel, practicing suturing a piece of pigskin.
Her focused gaze made it seem as if she wasn't sewing pigskin, but a work of art.
One o'clock in the morning.
The door was pushed open.
A gust of cold wind blew in, carrying a few fallen leaves.
What came in wasn't a person.
At least they don't look human.
It was a "zombie" dressed in Qing Dynasty official robes, with a deathly pale face and a yellow talisman pasted on its forehead.
He hopped through the door with his arms outstretched.
Li Siyuan was dozing off when he heard a noise. He looked up and nearly jumped out of his skin: "My God! A corpse has risen!"
His shout woke up Wang Minyu on the second floor.
Su Qing didn't even lift her eyelids, her knife steadily tying a knot on the pigskin: "If it were a real zombie, its joint stiffness wouldn't be this bad, with its knees bending more than 15 degrees. Besides, the lividity isn't just paint."
The "zombie" paused for a moment, remaining awkwardly standing in place with its arms outstretched.
"Um... Doctor, could you please put my hand down for me?" A voice came from behind Huang Fu, trembling with tears. "I'm having a cramp, a real cramp, it's stuck."
Wang Minyu came downstairs wearing a coat and couldn't help but laugh when he saw this scene.
This is an NPC (non-player character) in an escape room game.
"Young people these days are so dedicated," Wang Minyu said, walking over and pinching the man's deltoid and trapezius muscles. "Muscle rigidity spasm, commonly known as 'frozen.' How long have you been holding that position?"
"Four hours..." the NPC guy said, his voice trembling with tears. "Today, one group of customers was so long-winded. They spent three hours solving puzzles in the coffin room, and I just stood there holding it up for three hours. After they left, I realized I couldn't put it down anymore."
"That's an occupational hazard." Wang Minyu gestured to Su Qing, "Give him a 'meat-tightening injection'."
Su Qing put down the scalpel and took out a frighteningly long silver needle from the drawer.
The NPC saw the needle through the yellow talisman, and his calves started to cramp.
"Don't move," Su Qing said coldly. "If you move and the needle misses its mark, you'll really be paralyzed."
Her chilling, unapproachable aura made her look even more like a ghost than the guy dressed as a zombie.
The young man immediately became obedient, not daring to breathe.
Acupuncture needles were inserted into the Jianjing acupoint, along with Wang Minyu's specially made medicinal oil (containing a small amount of mutated peppermint extract).
The young man felt a chill creep down his shoulder and into his bones, followed by a tingling, numbing sensation.
"Ah—" he couldn't help but exclaim.
"Don't make a sound." Su Qing frowned in disgust. "Corpses don't make sounds."
"Oh..." the young man shut up, feeling wronged.
Ten minutes later, his arms finally fell down, like two cooked noodles.
"Thank you, doctor! Thank you, doctor!" The young man removed the yellow talisman, revealing a handsome face covered in special effects makeup. "How much?"
"Three hundred." Wang Minyu pointed to the donation box. "Also, you seem to have a problem with your voice, don't you?"
The young man was taken aback, then touched his throat: "How did you know? I have been a little hoarse lately, probably from shouting too much to scare people."
"Vocal cord nodules." Wang Minyu poured him a glass of water. "You guys in this line of work, your vocal technique is wrong. You can't just shout to scare people, you have to use your diaphragm. Also, drink more herbal tea and eat less spicy snacks."
Just then, a buzzing sound suddenly came from outside the shop.
It looked like some huge insect was approaching.
Wang Minyu's eyes narrowed.
A black drone, about the size of a fist, hovered in front of the pharmacy, its red camera scanning the store.
That wasn't a civilian aircraft; it had a tiny "DF" logo printed on its fuselage—Peak Bio.
"Looks like Manager Lin isn't giving up yet," Wang Minyu sneered.
The drone seemed to be searching for something; its red light swept across the counter, then across Su Qing, and finally tried to fly towards the backyard.
"Guanshan!"
Without Wang Minyu even having to shout, the second-floor window suddenly opened.
Guan Shan, wearing a pair of shorts and holding a slipper that was only half intact, threw it out like a discus thrower.
"Snapped!"
Accurate hit.
The drone crashed to the ground, billowing black smoke. Before it even hit the ground, the lead goose, which had been woken up by the noise, rushed up and gave it a couple of beatings, turning it into a pile of scrap metal.
"Why are you playing with airplanes so late at night instead of sleeping!" Guan Shan cursed from upstairs.
The NPC guy stared in disbelief: "Your pharmacy... has an air defense system?"
"Trade secret." Wang Minyu walked over and picked up the wreckage of the drone, finding a miniature sampling tube inside.
It seems the other party wants to collect samples remotely.
"Um..." The NPC hesitated for a moment, "Actually, I'm the owner of 'Mist Theater.' I think the atmosphere in your store is really great. That nurse... would you be interested in working part-time? Daily pay, excellent benefits."
Su Qing raised her head, the scalpel in her hand flashing coldly: "Would you like to experience a real autopsy?"
The young man swallowed hard, threw down three hundred yuan, and ran away as if fleeing.
"Master, what should we do with this drone?" Li Siyuan asked, leaning closer.
"Take it down." Wang Minyu tossed the wreckage to him. "The motor inside was pretty good; it'll be perfect for replacing the motor in the automatic herbal decoction machine. Keep the camera too; install it at the toilet entrance to keep out thieves."
The night fell silent once more.
Wang Minyu returned to the second floor, but he couldn't fall asleep.
The probes from the Peak Creatures are becoming more and more frequent.
They didn't dare to openly barge in, so they started resorting to these underhanded tactics.
He opened the system panel and looked at the grayed-out quest—[S-Rank Story: Awakening of the Seed (Second Stage)]. The progress bar had reached 99%.
"It'll be soon," he murmured to himself.
Downstairs, Su Qing continued sewing her pigskin, but her movements were a little slower than usual.
She looked out at the dark street, a hint of worry flashing in her eyes.
The goose let out a shrill cry in the backyard, as if it had seen something unclean.
