Chapter 79 Intentions
Chapter 79 Intentions
The gods, dwelling in the clouds, noticed the uninvited guests.
The void distorted. A figure traversed the distance of space and appeared before Liang Jiu. Su Cheng was still dressed in the same clothes as in the mortal world, with gray-black runes swirling around him.
"Liang Jiu, you are indeed extraordinary," Su Cheng greeted him.
He spread his arms, showing Liang Jiu the entire landscape of the divine realm below.
A blood-red setting sun hung on the edge of the horizon. This was a land without gods, a space utterly heading towards death. As far as the eye could see, countless alien species were engaged in a life-or-death struggle.
The strong devour the weak, monsters devour monsters. Brutality has overwhelmed the instinct for survival. Civilization will never be born on such land; the very face of all hope, even a thousand years from now, will likely remain the same ordinary landscape.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Su Cheng said. "The closest thing to eternity."
"Don't try to apply your aesthetics to me." Liang Jiu looked at the battlefield below, where blood and flesh were flying everywhere. When fighting was no longer for survival, but for fear, Liang Jiu hated this sight and could not accept this kind of ecosystem.
"I saw indifference in your eyes. I always thought we were the same kind of people." Su Cheng lowered his arm.
"You talk far more nonsense than you do in the real world." Liang Jiu stared at the person in front of him. "Or is the current you the real you?"
"Who knows? You've changed quite a bit too, haven't you? You've become much more sharp and outspoken."
The two stared at each other for a moment. The wind whipped up the blood mist below and blew across the illusory clouds.
Finally, Su Cheng broke the silence.
"What are you doing here? You probably didn't come here to see me, did you? You noticed it too, didn't you? These creatures used for testing, even though they're not from the same faction, can fight because of a common enemy. Creatures without gods can overcome their instincts and come together."
Following his pointing finger, even though the black wolf pack had completely blocked the Cyclops's escape route, the giant birds that landed in the sky, instead of fighting for the dying Cyclops, began attacking the wolf pack. Despite their ferocity, they still united to fight against the intruders. Influenced by a power different from the divine power system, this evaded Liang Jiu and Su Cheng's perception.
"What do you know?" Liang Jiu asked.
"I don't know. My understanding of divine realm theory is very poor, and this doesn't seem like knowledge that a divine seed could access."
Liang Jiu had no intention of continuing the conversation and turned to leave.
A divine decree pierced the clouds, reaching the desolate plains below. Upon receiving the decree, the Sinker people, led by Sinker, began their movement. The Sinker elites, treading over flesh and bones, resolutely marched towards the direction indicated by their deity.
Seeing that Liang Jiu was about to leave, Su Cheng spoke up from behind.
"Are those things important to you?" He looked at Liang Jiu's back with a smile. "This is just a test. If it's not something you should know, the responsible teacher would have stopped you. You're a smart person, don't let curiosity ruin you."
Liang Jiu stopped and turned his head slightly.
"Your followers can subtly influence the gods. It seems that spending too much time with your dire wolves has made you as suspicious as they are."
The runes beside Su Cheng paused for a moment, then turned red.
"Did you learn your foul mouth from your family?" He lowered his arm, no longer trying to stop him. "Fine, whatever. See you at the arena later."
The Xin Clan's forces ventured deeper into the divine realm of the terrain.
As they ventured deeper, the terrain of this test divine realm became increasingly complex. The gray-brown wasteland was gradually replaced by vast forests of dead trees and steep mountains. A lingering miasma permeated the forests, unknown swamps lay hidden beneath the fallen leaves, and visibility was drastically reduced.
Xin Zang walked at the very front of the group. He held the spear upside down, and the dark golden flame on the tip of the Five Weapons Spear maintained a faint burning state, illuminating the path ahead.
In this harsh environment, the inner flame becomes an excellent medium for perception. Whenever wild beasts or strange creatures lurk in the surrounding withered forest, the flame at the tip of the spear tells Xin Zang the enemy's location and strength.
Using this sense, the team weaved through the dense forest and rocks, avoiding wave after wave of aimless wandering enemies and conserving a great deal of energy.
After venturing dozens of miles further, they discovered a building halfway up the mountain.
It was an abandoned temple. Constructed of grayish-white stone, most of the main structure had collapsed, and several thick stone pillars lay broken among the weeds, their surfaces covered with signs of weathering.
The group stopped outside the temple. The surroundings were unusually quiet. Wild animals, which had been everywhere along the way, had completely disappeared in this area, as if native life was deliberately staying away from this region.
Xin Zang led his men inside to search. The temple's layout was surprisingly simple; there were no murals, no sacrificial implements, and not even a single statue of a deity on the central base.
A mere empty stone shell, its creator unknown, and its inhabitants unknown.
Over the next half-day's journey, three more temples of the same type appeared in succession. At fixed intervals, an abandoned building would stand on a high ground or in the woods. They had been neglected for years, and their forms were completely identical; even after several searches, not a single unique feature could be found.
The Xinzu people couldn't see anything amiss, but Liang Jiu, who was high above the clouds, saw a completely different scene.
He mobilized divine power and looked down upon the earth.
In the divine vision, beneath the peeling stone of the desolate, abandoned temple, clear traces of extraordinary paths remain. These traces extend outward from the temple, buried deep underground, transforming into intricate networks that connect the entire vast divine realm.
The creations of the gods originated from the transmission network of the divine power system, an anchor point of a vast design, somewhat similar to the Buddha power distribution system he saw in the Pure Land of Ten Thousand Buddhas, but presumably carrying different purposes.
The seminary uses this space as the examination hall for its mid-term exams, perhaps because of this system.
On the ground, the team continued forward, crossing a steep ridge.
The fourth temple appeared in the center of the valley ahead. This temple was much better preserved than the previous ones, with four intact pillars supporting half of the dilapidated dome.
Xin Zang, holding a long spear, approached, stepping on the gravel.
As soon as he stepped onto the first step of the temple, the spear in his hand emitted a continuous hum.
The dark golden flames covering the spear tip suddenly surged forth without warning. The flames became extremely volatile, tilting inwards towards the temple as if resisting something.
Xin Zang stopped in his tracks.
A surge of life force emanated from the depths of the temple. So intense, like facing a blazing sun in the midst of ice and snow. Fiery, domineering, like a colossal beast.
The more acutely one perceives the inner fire, the clearer the sense of oppression one experiences at this moment.
Xin Zang stopped on the steps, unable to take another step forward. He stared into the dark interior of the temple, a fear stemming from an instinctive fear spreading through his heart. The inevitable awe felt by mortal beings when confronting a higher level of power.
