Chapter 275 - 238: Once the Golden Hoop is On, You’re a Police Dog from Now On
The villagers had complained multiple times, so he couldn’t just ignore them. He’d even organized a group to try and catch the dog.
But the dog was cunning and would bolt the moment it saw anyone. After all that trouble, they couldn’t even catch a single hair off it.
He never expected Shen Xin to succeed on his first try.
"Yep, this is him. Come on, you ate the man’s cured sausages. Apologize!" Shen Xin said, tugging the leash.
It was hard to tell if the dog understood, but it turned its head away with a disdainful snort, so it probably got the gist of it.
Tang Xu waved a dismissive hand, saying it was fine as long as Shen Xin took the dog away.
Shen Xin then greeted the two officers.
One was a middle-aged man named Hu Guangyu, a police sergeant.
The auxiliary officer with him was surnamed Chen.
Shen Xin had contacted their deputy chief. Hu Guangyu just happened to be in the area today to swap out some anti-fraud posters, so he dropped by on his way.
The two of them stepped aside. After hearing Shen Xin’s explanation, Hu Guangyu frowned. "So, you’re saying you suspect that stray animal rescue of committing donation fraud, and you want to ask if anyone has filed a report with our station?"
Shen Xin nodded.
’Animal abuse is morally reprehensible, but it’s not against the law.’
’Fraud is something the police can actually handle.’
’But someone has to file a report. We can only open a case and start an investigation after a report is filed.’
Hu Guangyu shook his head. "I honestly haven’t heard anything about it. Tell you what, I’ll ask around when I get back. We’ll be in touch if anything comes up."
Shen Xin nodded.
’It wasn’t a serious case, and this was the New District anyway. As a detective from Tingyang, all I needed to do was report the suspicious activity. There was no need for me to get involved personally; a heads-up was enough.’
’If it turned out to be a real case, their station would have to investigate it themselves.’
After a bit more small talk, Shen Xin took the three dogs and headed back to the base.
When it was time to get in the car, Tian Kui was a little reluctant.
It backed away, fidgeting, and seemed unwilling to leave.
"Let’s go."
Shen Xin patted him, and only then did the dog get in the car.
He refused to submit to Tiger Stripes and Black Panther, though. Once they were in the car, the three dogs started trying to fight each other.
Shen Xin had to scold them the entire way back before they finally reached the base in one piece.
The moment they entered the K9 base, Tian Kui must have caught the scent of many other dogs, because his eyes immediately turned fierce.
’This one is definitely a troublemaker.’
He turned his head and barked a few times at Tiger Stripes, apparently communicating with him.
Shen Xin didn’t know what he was trying to say, but he could hear Tiger Stripes’s thoughts.
’They’re not.’
Seeing the eager glint in Tiger Stripes’s eyes and his ready-to-pounce stance, Shen Xin immediately knew what he was thinking.
’Tian Kui must have asked him, "Are these your guys?"’
’And Tiger Stripes answered, "No."’
Tian Kui then turned to ask Black Panther.
Black Panther’s thought was also, ’No.’
Tiger Stripes barked again, as if to say, ’Why are you asking him? He’s my underling.’
Even though he couldn’t actually beat Black Panther, Tiger Stripes always treated him like an underling.
Tian Kui barked a few times.
Shen Xin heard Tiger Stripes think, ’Okay.’
It was obvious. The two of them had immediately ganged up and decided to take on all the police dogs.
This was Tiger Stripes’s first time here, too.
He was still addicted to the idea of being the top dog.
Shen Xin gave Tiger Stripes a light kick, warning him that if he caused any trouble, he’d be in for it.
Tiger Stripes whimpered and cowered away.
But his thoughts gave away his true intentions.
’I’ll just wait until you’re gone.’
This pissed Shen Xin off so much he swatted him again.
By this time, the day’s training schedule at the base was already underway.
On the large training field, numerous K9s were going through their exercises according to the training plan.
In a corner of the field, Shen Xin spotted Li Jiahui and her group.
Li Jiahui was holding the leashes for Celestial Spirits and Celestial Secret, helping them get familiar with a few of the active-duty police dogs.
The moment Shen Xin got close, Tian Kui let out a bark and assumed a fighting stance.
Several police dogs reacted instantly, their heads swiveling toward him in unison.
Tiger Stripes bared his fangs as well.
Chen Guo and the other handlers quickly restrained their K9s.
Tian Xian—the extra Taihang dog they’d picked up from the shelter—had a lively personality and wasn’t one to back down from a fight. Faced with Tian Kui’s provocation, he suddenly broke free and charged.
In an instant, the two dogs were at each other’s throats.
Even with the leash still around his neck, Tian Kui was ferocious. He dodged Tian Xian’s lunge, then pounced from above, pinning Tian Xian down and sinking his teeth into his ear with vicious speed and precision.
With lightning-fast reflexes, Shen Xin rushed forward and kicked Tian Kui off.
Even so, Tian Xian’s ear was already torn open.
But Tian Xian was no pushover. He rolled over, ready to lunge again.
But Tiger Stripes shot forward to block his path, baring his teeth and growling.
"Beat it."
Shen Xin cursed, kicked Tiger Stripes aside, then gave Tian Xian a slap.
’So much for your name, Tian Xian. You’re not idle for a second.’
Tian Kui whimpered at Shen Xin in protest, as if to ask why he’d been stopped.
Li Jiahui rushed over, pulled Tian Xian aside, and checked on his ear.
Having lost his target, Tian Kui immediately redirected his aggression toward the police dogs with Chen Guo and the others.
Chen Guo held back the restless Knight, looking surprised. "Shen Xin, is this the dog you guys found yesterday? He’s way too aggressive."
Another handler, Wang Zhuo, was holding back a Ronaldo. He had to scold his dog several times before it finally settled down. He nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he’s a bit aggressive, but you have to admit, he’s a hell of a fighter."
From their professional point of view, Tian Kui had a powerful build and sturdy limbs. His conformation was genuinely excellent.
"That’s why he needs training."
’The goal is for him to become a police dog, which means all these other dogs will be his colleagues.’
’And fighting with your colleagues is a serious offense.’
Shen Xin dragged Tian Kui in front of him, grabbed him by the ear, and gave him a stern lecture until he finally settled down a bit.
Then he went to check on Tian Xian’s ear.
Li Jiahui looked exasperated. "He’s going to need a few stitches."
Tian Xian was still indignant and tried to struggle free.
’These dogs were all strays before, so their obedience was terrible. If they were ever going to become police dogs, they needed to have absolute discipline and follow commands without question.’
